Current issue:
Shopping or entertainment centers?
As a result of the restrictions associated with the coronavirus pandemic, malls have seen lower visitation and sales rates in 2020. While some stores were able to operate virtually throughout the lockdown period there are industries that have been, are being and will continue to be negatively impacted by the restrictions for a long time to come. Their business also has a huge impact on the operation of the entire facility. Because of the coronavirus, according to Media4Fun, viewers’ interest in cinema offerings is waning in favor of other forms of distribution – such as VoD platforms. And while in recent years the role of shopping centers has increasingly been based on the social function, rather than just commercial, it seems that the construction of customer awareness will have to start its journey anew. We ask industry experts, among other things, whether and how the entertainment offer of shopping centers will change in the context of the current market situation; what will shopping centers attract customers with in 2021; and how will they rebuild footfall and sales levels to achieve pre-pandemic results?
